(PNS reporting from MILWAUKEE) Local cat made good Daren the Lion, long-time spokescritter for the D.A.R.E. anti-drug education program, has resigned and moved to Colorado, PNS learned Monday.

“He’s fallen off the catnip wagon,” one area family member told PNS. “He’s all about the ‘flowers’ now.”

Daren’s resignation follows last week’s online release of a photo (above) of the famous mascot, looking disheveled and unhappy, and reports over the weekend of videos showing the famous feline ecstatically rolling around in piles of the herbaceous intoxicant. The videos feature the Washington, D.C. skyline, where D.A.R.E. is based.

“Don’t drone me, bro! I can stop any time I want!” the big cat shouts as he chases imaginary laser dots over, under and around the weed, according to sources who have seen the footage.

“Ya know what I would really, really, really like right now?” he asks. “Friskies Party Mix Crunch Cheezy Craze Cat Treats! I’m keepin’ it real!”

Catnip is legal in Colorado.
