They seem to be much more respectful of our culture than Americans (like Madonna et al) who appropriate items from other cultures, with no thought other than “it’s so cute!” So I say, “Why not?”

Japanese youth embraced Elvis and Rockabilly, and they do it with a lot of thoughtful respect. I consider it an honor.

Based on the stories I’ve seen on this over the years, I agree with Tapia. They seem to immerse themselves in it rather than just put in on like some Coachella weekend costume; even if it’s idealized in a way, it’s respectful. It’s also not the racist parodying of our culture we seen at U.S. frat parties.

When u was little and cholo’d out , we incorporated a lot of japanese and chinese themes into everything we did artistically. Its reciporicating . Firme
