New Mexico Tourism Board’s racist want ad: ‘Morenos need not apply’

by Gabacho Borracho on March 24, 2012 in El Now, Video

When your casting call includes skin color, people are going to think one of two things: Either you’re filming a sunblock ad or you’re a stone racist.

The New Mexico Tourism Board’s little gaffe (nicely summed up here from local news clips by the sharp folks at Cuentame) pretty much says it: Arizona Cerebral Fever – which renders bureaucrats completely tone-deaf to their own cluelessness about race – is contagious. You catch it from the pendejos next door in the Hate State of Arizona.

What’s priceless is the third-class backpedaling the spokeswoman offers – about how they’re looking for “a wide range of people” and this spot is “the first of many.”

I can’t wait to see whether the upcoming “light-skinned Indians” casting call raises a bigger stink from the New Mexican Sikh community or the Acoma pueblo.

Isn’t it about (past) time for people to stop hating on each other for the dumbest of reasons like skin color? I’ve been teaching on this tip since I was a little boy. If you “owned” a tan horse and a brown horse, would you love the tan one better because tan is a better color for horses, and lighter hair means better horse (in whatever way is important to you)?

Okay, if you can see it with animal ownership, then what don’t you understand about people and jumping to stupid conclusions about each other’s innate worth/presumed moral “worthiness” based on superfluous stuff like the color of their skin?

Geographic origin (as well as calendar age) is another dumb reason to discriminate among humans… humans (of whatever appearance) belong EVERYWHERE on this planet. Ask God if you don’t believe me.

If you cannot understand assertions so simple, I’m not sure I can help you. But God can! If you take issue (and/or choose to direct your hatred at me for being anti-prejudice), I can promise you only that I have little to zero time for haters in my life, and that a sincere spiritual quest/path could very likely help you to escape such ignorance.

First of many, eh? Good grief. Can’t wait to see how they handle the next casting call. Oh, and I want her job. I, too, fog a mirror.
