Al Madrigal: ‘The day I hired a day laborer’ (NSFW)

by Comic Saenz on January 4, 2012 in Cultura, Video

Al Madrigal live at the Laugh Factory: When at Home Depot (note to self – go early in the morning) it’s important to choose wisely when picking your day laborer. Not Safe For Work. Tomorrow’s video: Pocho-in-Chief Lalo Alcaraz interviews Al at POCHO headquarters about Al’s new full-time gig as the Daily Show’s Senior Latino Correspondent.

Hated this. Pesado. So not funny, acting the fool and making fun of hard working people for a gabacho laugh. Pathetic.

This is actually pretty pathetic comedy… if it can be labeled comedy! If he’s gonna use the “I’m Latino, so I can make fun of Latinos card” to make money by making jokes of hard-working day laborers, he should at least work on his Spanish — It’s “toDos” not “ToRos” fool! Maybe, just maybe then I can swallow this unsavory comedy but a so-called Latino, who can’t even pronounce a word as simple as TODOS!

If you saw this video and took it as an attack or making fun of hard working day laborers, then you seriously missed the point. What he is making fun of is this bizarre and unique hiring process that takes place all around this country. It is ripe for comedy precisely because it is so unique. If we can’t laugh at ourselves, then we are really in trouble.

Agree, he totally missed the mark. There are some awesome pocho comedians out there, but Al is not one of them. And you are right Chocho we need to be able to laugh at ourselves and not take things too seriously sometimes, but I didn’t find him funny at all. I don’t think he made fun of the process at all, he poked fun at the workers. Why not make fun of the people driving around then, instead of the workers? I would make fun of a pocho who is not capable of doing his own handy-work around the house!

TA
That sounds like an open challenge. I would love to see the counterpoint to this video. I’m sure if it we’re funny, pocho would post it.
