The mayor’s message for President Trump? YOU ARE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!
Those awkward moments when
- An Oklahoma mayor’s husband thinks dressing up in white sheets and carry burning torches like the Ku Klux Klan would be a fun Halloween idea and
- The president of the University of Louisville, KY dresses as a “Mexican.”
Everyone is sorry now, OK? Can we please move on?
Remember when the white wingers were hating on El Charro del Oro, the Mariachi Kid, Sebastien de la Cruz? No? Nevermind. This kid sings The Star Spangled Banner like a boss. (The old boss, Donald Trump, got fired.)
Valentin Gonzalez, a candidate for mayor of Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl, wheeled out a “Batmobile” to draw attention to his election campaign Saturday. Gonzalez hopes to link the crime-fighting vehicle with “the return of tranquility and order in the municipality.”
PREVIOUSLY ON MEXICAN CANDIDATES:
Benjamin Medrano, 47, won Fresnillo’s July 7 election and will take office this September. His election — he is said to be the first openly-gay mayor in Mexico’s history — has led some observers to speculate that famously-macho Mexicans didn’t really know Medrano was gay, or didn’t believe him when he told them.
Hey, Zacatecas! Try these Pocho Ocho ways to calibrate your gaydar:
8. P.A.N. — not gay. P.R.I. — gay.
7. Maria del Barrio — not gay. Maria del Zona Rosa — gay.
6. Blue Demon — not gay. Santo Gay — gay.
Morris the cat is a write-in candidate for mayor in Xalapa, Veracruz, MX. He’s a candigato, get it?
MEXICO CITY — Fed up with politicians they call “rats,” a group of friends in the eastern Mexican city of Xalapa have put forward their ideal candidate for mayor: a cat named Morris.
Xalapa resident Sergio Chamorro, who adopted the cat in August, said the plan began as a joke between friends borne out of their frustration with the Veracruz state government over freedom of speech.
“Fed up of voting for rats? Vote for a cat,” reads one campaign poster featuring the black and white cat, using the Spanish “ratas” for rats and “gato” for Morris.
(PNS reporting from LOS ANGELES) Outgoing Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villariagosa has a proposal for incoming mayor Eric Garcetti: Be my wingman.
Villariagosa has been contemplating life after being LA’s mayor — and it’s not looking good. Reviewing his taste for power and dating attractive women who would be out of his shorty league if he weren’t powerful, Villariagosa told PNS he’s worried.
Antonio Villaraigosa came into the Los Angeles’ Mayor’s office with so much promise in 2005.
My radio show on KPFK, The Pocho Hour of Power (heard Fridays at 4PM PST on 90.7 FM) produced and played this also hopeful and playful tune, Livin’ Villaraigosa, to document the excitement and also skewer the anti-Mexican conspiracy theorists who were raising a Reconquista alarm about Villaraigosa.
(PNS reporting from POCHO RICO) San Juan Mayor Jorge Santini’s Christmas card — which features a graphic interspecies love tryst — is “a good start,” the North American Man-Mammal Love Association (NAMMLA) enthused Wednesday.
“We’ve been after the mayor all year to get him to stand up for our right to love our furry neighbors as ourselves,” local NAMMLA leader Juan Don Gamera told a press conference in capital city San Juan.
“This card doesn’t go all the way,” the Boricuan said, “but when he’s not ashamed to show the lion lying down with the lamb, so to speak, it’s a good start.”
