Breaking: Chef Rick Bayless invents ultimate hangover cure

7upbaby640(PNS reporting from CHICAGO) Black coffee, menudo, In-N-Out, mota, maybe even a little hair of the dog — all common hangover remedies, right? But according to a study from Mexican culinary genius Rick Bayless, a new discovery might have them all beat: 7-Up.

“People have helplessly suffered hangovers forever and without any kind of cure. Well, I have discovered the single greatest hangover cure of all-time and can back it up with scientific evidence. No one has ever thought of this before…it’s 7-Up, my friends. You’re welcome!” Bayless told PNS.

The Bayless research team at an Evanston Taco Bell laboratory (responsible for the Doritos Loco Taco) recently found that the lemon-lime soda aids in the metabolism of alcohol within the body, breaking down the part that causes hangovers.

According to Bayless, 7-Up speeds up the way alcohol is processed in the body.

“When we drink booze, ethanol is broken down first into acetaldehyde, which causes the feelings of a hangover, or as I like to call it “la cruda,”and then into acetate. 7-Up speeds up this process. I came up with this conclusion all by myself, just like I invented mole,” Bayless said. “It is my hope that mi gente will use this cure for la cruda. I give it to them as a gift.”

Bayless, clad in a sombrero and serape, also said that 7-Up worked better than nearly 60 other beverages he tested, some of which actually slowed down the process and prolonged the hangover.

The Aztec Eagle recipient, who is once again in the running for “most Mexican Man in the world,” is expected to receive a multi-million dollar deal with 7-Up in order to promote the beverage as “the ultimate hangover cure.” Who knew?

As for what’s next chef Bayless, he told PNS that he has his eyes set on inventing something he calls a “puffy taco” which he said will set the culinary world on fire.
