Woman needs stricter hubby test than ‘not a drunk, won’t beat me’

(PNS reporting from SAN ANTONIO) Sandra Ceballos made a shocking discovery Friday night when she was out with her girlfriends.

The standards she’d been using to find a good husband were, as her friend Jenny put it, “appallingly low.”

Ceballos, whose family is from Mexico, was raised to believe that if a man is not too much of a drunk, works hard, and doesn’t beat you, he’s “good husband material.”

My friend’s new movie, ‘The Book of Life,’ is lush, hilarious (photos)

MariachisThe Book of Life opens today in theaters nationwide. This lush and hilarious Day of the Dead-inspired movie is by my friend Jorge Gutierrez and film giant Guillermo del Toro.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the flick’s “red carpet” premiere Sunday, and I had the time of my life. It was a “bucket list” experience, and I want to share some of the images and sounds from that morning of movie madness.

Highlights included photobombing the stars, taking a selfie with Diego Luna, and making Ice Cube snarl.

New Mexico petroglyphs: Headlines from the past (photos)

croppedpetro6There’s lots to see in Placitas, a small New Mexico community north of Albuquerque between the Sandia and Santa Ana Pueblos. If you take a stroll through the foothills, chances are you’ll spot ancient petroglyphs amid the hoof prints of wild horses.

And that’s what I found on a jog Sunday near my home.

On top of a hill I spotted petroglyphs of animals, insects, and other images lost to history. They were most likely created by the indigenous people of the region hundreds of years ago. Hopi journalist Patty Talahongva says they are headlines from the past.

Next to them, unfortunately, were a few scratches (defacing) likely made by area residents in recent years.

Hey, you kids in Australia: Don’t cut class or else! (video)

The Land Down Under offers this public service announcement urging high school kids to stay in school and don’t be a slacker.

We don’t care if it’s a perfect day to cut class and enjoy skimpy swimsuits and sexytime surfing.

If you mates and sheilas go walkabout, you’ll have no one to blame for the consequences but your own billabong. Karma is a boomerang.
