Santa Muerte? So last year! Meet Santo Cholo! (toon)

This is an acrylic on a wood cut-out in the New Mexico style of Santo paintings. It’s about 17 inches high and maybe 7 inches wide at its widest point, kind of a coffin shape. The bridge in the back is the Coronado Bridge and Santo Cholo is holding a low rider and the Kiosko from Chicano Park.

The Barrio Nostalgia of ‘Veteranas and Rucas’ on Instagram

The internet is so much about what to look at.
For me, that’s weird. You see the bulk of the first part of my life was bound up with reading—which is all about looking at things, reading words, but has little to do with seeing, with reading pictures.
It is true that as a kid, I was all about reading while seeing, with Richie Rich, Mad Magazine, Vampirella, Batman, Eerie, and Plop! infecting the technicolor corridors of my imagination.
But after that came college and graduate school with a major in literature—so novels took over (that and critical theory), so words came to dominate the scene of my life.

This is a how-to-make-tacos video from Chile. Huh?
The folks from Chile’s Mundos Jumbo want you to make tacos this way, with a can of their Mexican style red beans, lettuce, ground meat, tomatoes, purple cebolla, salt and pepper, but no lime, no cilantro, no spices, and no chiles. Ya think?

Yes indeed! That surely is a mega California burrito! (video)
The Mega California Burrito from Sabor Taqueria y Mariscos in Oxnard, Califas, is made with “three large tortillas, generous portions of carne asada, beans, fries, grilled peppers, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and red sauce.” $25 feeds the whole family! Come for the burritos and stay for the micheladas. Or vice versa.
Why is it a “California burrito? It’s the San Diego-style fries inside.

A POCHO editor explains Spanglish to gente in España
Spanglish is only one of the dialects created by people who straddle two culturas.
(See what I did there? )
The underlying assumption of Spanglish is that one language is not enough to capture the full experience of being immersed in two cultures.
The gente who use Spanglish are primarily first and second generation Latinos in the United States. I would say the phenomenon springs from the working classes and the sons and daughters of immigrants to the United States (not to exclude the immigrants themselves).

From England: Chicken teriyaki tacos with pineapple salsa (video)
Looks pretty good, actually. A legit chicken teriyaki recipe, authentic pico de gallo/salsa made with grilled piña, and of course everything tastes better on a tortilla. We have three questions, though:
- Where did the rice come from?
- How can it be a “healthier” with a lettuce wrap instead of a tortilla? Corn tortillas are GLUTEN FREE, ENGLISH DUDE. Also, no tortilla, no taco.
- Wassup with the Christmas music soundtrack on a video uploaded March 27?
