Paco Estrada, Brandon Callies as The Heart of the City: ‘The River’ (video)

The River is new video from Brandon Callies (Black Tie Vendetta, Brandon Callies and The American Revival) of Austin and Paco Estrada (SouthFM, Paco Estrada and One Love) of Dallas.

But The Heart of the City — as these Texans call themselves — won’t let life get them down.

What’s for breakfast? Breakfast tacos or breakfast burritos?

tacos-villa-corona-breakfast-burrito.0.0Here in Los Angeles, we like breakfast burritos. We like the breakfast burritos so much that breakfast burritos can be enjoyed in Jewish delis, Chinese restaurants, Greek diners, burger stands, sushi joints, lunch trucks, Mexican restaurants, old-school coffee shops and fancy places near the beach.

LA.Eater, for example, just published a list of three dozen breakfast burrito destinations, which includes Mid-City 24/7 Lucy’s Drive-In (Gustavo Arellano’s go-to place for chile relleno burritos), Anthony Bourdain pick Tacos Villa Corona in Atwater Village (photo, above) and ∼$12 burritos at the The Farm in Beverly Hills which are filled with aged cheddar cheese and applewood smoked bacon.

But breakfast burritos are an anomaly in some parts of Texas, where breakfast tacos are the norm.

PETA: Quinoa vs chia cartel wars hurt Fido, Fluffy over Christmas

fidofluffy2(PNS reporting from AUSTIN) Fido and Fluffy have become collateral damage in the war between the rival QuinoaTraficante and ChiaTraficante agricultural cartels.

Recent attacks on Mexican chia seed production — apparently at the hands of rival-cartel-affiliated quinoa growers — have left thousands of local seed-deprived Chia Pets cold, shivering and hairless this Yuletide season, Texas People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) told PNS.

PETA said this includes Fido and Fluffy, of Barton Creek, pictured (above) in the organization’s latest Web ad.

Outlaw on the run? You’ve got ‘Compadres in the Sierra Madre’ (video)

Like many American songs ostensibly about Old Mexico, this song is really about America. San Francisco’s eclectic The Waybacks, like all smart outlaws, cross the Rio Grande to hook up with like-minded Compadres in the Sierra Madre. Swinging arrangement, cowboy lyrics? Could this be Western Swing?

Here are the lyrics and chords in case you want to swing along:

PETA AD: I CAN HAZ CHIA SEED?

(PNS reporting from AUSTIN) Skyrocketing demand for “perfect foods” has fueled a war between the rival QuinoaTraficante and ChiaTraficante agricultural cartels as they fight for market dominance — and Fido and Fluffy are the latest “collateral damage.”

Texas People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) say recent attacks on Mexican chia seed production — apparently at the hands of rival-cartel-affiliated quinoa growers — have left thousands of area seed-deprived chia pets cold, shivering and hairless in the dark. PETA said this includes Fido and Fluffy, of Barton Creek, pictured (above) in the organization’s latest Web ad.
