Angry area youth calls menudo ‘yucky,’ demands pizza
(PNS reporting from ALTADENA) Javier “Flaco” Hernandez outraged his family Sunday night when he refused to eat his bowl of menudo.
“It’s yucky!” the 8-year-old shouted as he repeatedly banged his spoon on the dinner table and insisted on pizza instead.
Flaco’s refusal ticked off his mom, who had spent hours preparing the beef stomach broth in the kitchen of their tidy suburban Los Angeles County bungalow.

“Okay, podemos ir a caminar pero si te cansas, es tu problema. No cargo bebes,” Lina says meanly to her four-year-old cousin.
“I’m not a baby!” says Teresita predictably but then insists on bringing her large plastic car, a hideous yellow contraption with giant painted eyeballs instead of headlights. Teresita gets in the toy car and looks at Lina expectantly. Lina sighs and begins to push her down the street.
“This is just a stroller, you know.” Lina grumbles. “You’re not making any progress into becoming a real person.”
Teresita either does not hear or pretends not to understand the English sentence. Lina suspects that rather than being a child “confused by the dichotomies of her bilingual upbringing” as the pre-school teacher suggested, that Teresita is just selectively deaf.

Selected photos of Frida Kahlo’s wardrobe – locked away for half a century – will go on exhibit in London next week.
After Kahlo’s death in 1954, her husband Diego Rivera shut her belongings in a bathroom at their Mexico City home, the Blue House, [video, below] the marvelous house they shared—and then insisted that it be locked up until 15 years after his death (which, in the event, happened in 1957).
In fact, the room wasn’t opened until 2004, when Ishiuchi Miyako was given permission to photograph its intimate contents.
The photographs will be on display at the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London from May 14 through July 12.

This relatively unknown 2011 (or 2013?) video from Mexican rockers Los Mariachi just re-appeared on Vimeo with much better video and audio than the YouTube original and we’re glad it did. Señorita features the band’s awesome sweet Mexican metal – they got the action, they got the motion, yeah, the boys can play! That’s Ian Alvarez on soulful vocals, Carlos Casquejo shredding on the guitar, Ruben Balagot pumping it out on bass, Eddie Perez playing lyrical keyboards, and JamJam Emmanuel hitting hard on drums. Firme rock!
