Lalo Alcaraz: My Excellent Texalent ‘Bordertown’ Adventure (photos)
(TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20 2015 – TEXAS, USA) I’m “on tour” in South Texas, down along the border, screening episodes of the animated series Bordertown, which debuts next year on FOX.
It’s exotic! The indigenous cuisine served ^^^ at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, in McAllen, is like nothing I’ve previously encountered – it’s “quirky.” And I was surrounded by crackers; barrels not so much.

Los Cenzontles: We’re up and down, like a swing ‘El Columpio’ (video)
Los Cenzontles (the Mockingbirds) offer up the traditional ranchera El Columpio. Life, they lament, is up and down, back and forth, like a seesaw or a swing. Lucina Rodriguez and Fabiola Trujillo sing accompanied by Eugene Rodriguez and Emiliano Rodriguez. Video by Tudor Stanley.

It’s dry in Mexico, too, but it’s not all bad. Low waters in a Chipas reservoir have revealed a sunken treasure. Discovery.com reports:

LatinoUSA: Do the Cubans still run Miami? (audio)
Cuban culture has dominated Latino Miami ever since Cubans arrived after Castro’s revolution 50 years ago. But recently, other Latin Americans have been moving in, and some are asking if Cuban immigrants get preferential treatment. Maria Murriel and Maria Hinojosa report for LatinoUSA.

POCHO El Pastor: ¿Who would Jesus deport?
Don’t you just love being awakened at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning with a knock on the door from your cheerful neighborhood congregation?
If you are from the southeast Los Angeles area that might have been me (dispensa for the madrugada). One thing I’ve learned is that faith, politics and culture are intrinsically woven together for many of us.
If the Jesus of the Bible were among us today, I would what He would think of the ‘MURICA! version of His teachings, and I’d like to ask Him a simple question, “Who would You deport”?
We’re no experts but something is wrong in ‘Fruta+Chile’ (video)
Are you sure this is how you do it? We love our mango con chile especially, but this looks wrong. [Fruta+Chile is by MMNTO.]

As Hispanic Heritage Month ends, Brooklyn Hispanics try to carry on

(PNS reporting from BROOKLYN) Hispanic Heritage Month is over, and without the corporate-approved celebration as a focus, local members of the Hispanic/Latino community here aren’t really sure how they can go on being local members of the local Hispanic/Latino community here.
“What now?” lamented Brooklyn native and prolific bloguera Marielena Gutierrez (photo, right.)
“Should I tell people to call me Mary Ellen for the remaining 11 months of the year? It’s not like they ever pronounce it right anyway,” she wrote on her PobrePickle blog.

Poquito Para Aqui is our favorite song (so far) from the new Los Lobos album, Gates of Gold.
Food truck maybe in København, Denmark serves ‘Mexican’ food (video)
In the democratic socialist paradise of Denmark, possibly in Copenhagen aka København, the Mexican Donkey food truck serves up “Mexican sandwiches.” After that, we’re not sure about anything. Pre-fried hard tortillas for tacos? Bread that looks like English muffins? Not a chile or sprig of cilantro to be found? Where’s the beef? Is that a machaca, queso, cebolla, frijoles and mayonnaise torta? And if this is the Burro Mexicano truck, where are the pinche burritos?
IS THIS WHAT YOU MEAN BY DANISH DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM, BERNIE SANDERS?
NO THANKS!
Latino GOP Texas state rep compares Bernie Sanders with Nazis
Texas Republican State Representative Jason Villalba, who represents a rich area of Dallas, continues to defend his Tweet implying Senator Bernie Sanders is acting like a Nazi.
Not that Sanders, who is Jewish, IS a Nazi, just sayin’, OK?
Villalba’s remarks are very similar to common misrepresentations of Latino Republican as vendido coconut pendejo babosos.

Cold coming on? Sopa de pollo for you (video)
In Texas they call this tortilla soup. If it was more brothy, you might call it caldo de pollo. Either way, it’s Mexican Jewish penicillin and mijo you’ll feel much better after you enjoy a nice warm bowl of chicken soup.
Hold the OVNI – all ‘El Mexican’ wants is a nice cool one (video)
Nothing like a cool refreshing cerveza on a hot dusty desert day. El Mexican gets all that, and more.
